BNC — Who We Are BeltLine Neighbors Coalition (BNC) is a civic organization of residents of the different intown neighborhoods that make up Atlanta. An outgrowth of the movement to revitalize the city of Atlanta, residents convene regularly. The history of Atlanta's revitalization goes back a few years, but recent events have accelerated the need for this watch group as BeltLine plans materialize. In June 2005, the Atlanta Development Authority (ADA) convened hearings on the BeltLine, “an exciting quality-of-life and infrastructure project that will provide 22 miles of paths, parks and transit along former railroad lines and underutilized industrial areas that encircle Atlanta neighborhoods.” Neighbors were encouraged to attend and provide input. Following these meetings, many residents expressed the desire to continue consulting with appropriate groups and to further research the prospects for the BeltLine. As a result, on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, a community meeting was held for neighbors interested in the BeltLine development process and the proposals put forth by the city’s consultants and developers. Neighbors agreed to work together to ensure appropriate development plans for the BeltLine, and have formed several committees.
Through these coordinated activities, BNC hopes to identify potential issues, propose solutions, and inform all stakeholders so that a world-class revitalization project is realized. All opinions expressed here are those of neighborhood volunteers and are represented in lay vocabulary for the purpose of sharing information.
